We have reached the end of the first week in the New Year, and as usual, we have BankNerd’s Best of the Best. This is the first Best of the Best of the New Year.

I do not know about you guys, but the first week in the New Year has been an interesting one, but everything happens for a reason and I am sure it will only get better from here on out.

As usual, I have compiled the best articles once again from a few blogs I have read throughout the week. These articles are all great, and I thought they deserved to be highlighted.

  1. We wrote about how Air Miles revamped their expiration policy. Now there is an expiration deadline on your Air Miles, which is definitely not something I wanted to see happen.
  2. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) holds a top spot for the best 2011 Apps in the Canadian finance category.
  3. Air Miles has recently introduced the new Air Miles Cash program, which now allows you to redeem cash at the checkout at participating sponsors.

Boomer and Echo held the Carnival of Passive Investing #13 this week. The purpose of the carnival is to provide a forum to showcase articles and research in passive investing strategies. It is also to create a community of passive investment bloggers to connect and share their experiences.

Give me Back my Five Bucks  did a recap of her 2011 Goals; the article runs through all the goals Krystal set for herself. What I like about this article is the break down she used, and I think that we should all do a recap of 2011 for both our finances and personal goals.

At Canadian Couch Potato, I came across a great article titled “Does the Couch Potato Work after Age 50?“. The article covers whether passive investing is the way to go for retirement. This is a great article for any investor looking into passive investing; what really stuck with me is no matter how old you are, the markets give what they give. If you want to have great returns, you can either take more risk, or lower your expectations and save more money.

The Financial Highway published an article titled “Best of 2011 – Win Amazon/ Visa Gift cards!“; the article covers the top 5 articles in 2011, and also goes into detail on how you can win an Amazon/ Visa Gift Card.

At Financial Uproar I came across an article titled “I think I Figured Out Why Frugality is so Popular“. It is a great article, and will definitely keep you interested throughout the entire article. He is on the money when it comes to frugality blogs, and why they are so popular – everyone has spending problems, and look for advice on how to handle it.
