Weekly Rate Spotlight – Citizens State Bank Offering 4.00% APY Variable IRA

15 February, 2012

Variable IRAs

Variable IRAs are like savings accounts in a tax-advantaged IRA account. A variable IRA can either be a traditional IRA, in which income from the account is tax deferred, or a Roth IRA, in which post-tax income grows tax-free and can be withdrawn tax free. The main difference between a Variable IRA and a Fixed IRA is that the interest rate earned on money in a Variable IRA can change at anytime (think of the difference between a savings account and a CD).

Citizens State Bank

The VIRA can only be opened at a Citizens State Bank branch. The bank has four branches located close to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The bank was founded in 1902. Its assets have remined relatively flat over the past six years, growing from $98 million to $99 million.

7 Frugal Myths Debunked

7 February, 2012

We frugal folks often get a bad rap. In the media, one of two things tends to happen. When the economy is bad, the media races to interview diehard frugal gurus to figure out just how they do it and peek behind the mysterious veil of living within your means. When economic times are brighter, frugality is marginalized and those same gurus are looked upon with a mixture of sympathy and disdain. I think both of these extremes are fueled by fundamental myths about what frugality really means. Let’s set the record and debunk seven of the most common frugal myths:

Some tightwads may be cheap and all tightwads are frugal, but not everyone who’s frugal is a tightwad or cheap. Follow? To me, tightwad and cheap are terms of disparagement.

Why you Need a Budget if your In Debt

4 February, 2012

Debt is a problem. When you get debt initially, either through a loan or a credit card, it doesn’t seem that bad. You can afford the payments. Over time, that debt begins to build up. It causes problems because you can’t afford to make your payments and pay your regular expenses. It becomes cyclical over time and could eventually lead to bankruptcy or worse.

You Need a Strategy

In order to get out of debt, you need a strategy that allows you to make your minimum payment each month and pay as much as possible more toward your debt to get rid of it quickly. The faster you get rid of it, the less you’ll pay in interest. The more aggressive you are at paying off your debt, the faster it will disappear. A strategy will get you there. A bud
